Sleep Apnoea Treatments

Home Sleep Study  ::  Apnoea Treatments

Your First Step

Selecting the correct treatment for your Sleep Apnoea is dependent on a thorough understanding of your sleep and to identify your disorder.

To this end we typically recommend a home sleep study and it can be conducted in the comfort of your own home.

Depending on the results summarised in your Sleep Study Report and in conjunction with a sleep physician your most suitable treatment option is determined.

Your Typical Treatment Options

Ttwo treatments would be proposed these would be:

  • CPAP or
  • Sleep Appliances

Both therapies are explained below:

Sleep Appliance

Similar to an orthodontic retainer or sports mouth guards, Sleep Appliances are finer with some only covering a few front teeth.

They help to reposition the jaw or tongue forward enabling a clear airway to be maintained. There are many different appliances available.

Depending on the severity of your sleep apnoea, an oral appliance may be required and a CPAP machine maybe required.

CPAP

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines is a face or nasal mask connected to a machine that produces a continuous stream of air which holds your airway open.

Compliance can be low because of the size. In this case use of an appliance can be better than nothing.

Regular Check Ups

Regular appointments are recommended to allow our dentist to monitor and evaluate the response of your teeth and jaw to your therapy.
